This glossary - AltanaESP Terms and Concepts - is a collection of the constructs (i.e. words, terms & concepts) often used in AltanaESP materials and content. This glossary act as a source of reference to enhance the contextual meaning and understanding of these "odd" terms and concepts. Words and/or phrases hold different meanings for each person. Therefore, it is a sensible idea to "define" the constructs used and to "place every body on the same page" when dealing with such constructs. Natural Laws are laws that direct and regulate life as we know it in the reality of present time and space; natural laws include things such as gravity, magnetism, friction, energy, cycles (e.g. rain, blood, life, digestion), flight and fight reactions, instincts, motivations, …etc. Natural laws are exclusively events driven and predictable as to it's outcome.

Natural Laws are fixed, unmoveable and it is, what it is and should be submitted to... trying to challenge or oppose natural laws will - at the very least - end in disaster, but probably in death. Natural laws are time and space bound and are best understood by using our left brain abilities of reason.

Natural Laws are laws that deal in absolutes. Absolutes with little or limited variations and there are NO exceptions to most of these laws. Should variations occur we can be sure – most of the time any how – that we can expect some calamity or unpleasant result. Natural Laws are to be taken literary and not fiddled around with unnecessary.

Network theory is an area of computer science and network science and part of graph theory. It has its application in many disciplines including particle physics, computer science, biology, economics, operations research, sociology and psychology. Network theory concerns itself with the study of graphs as a representation of either symmetric relations or - more generally - of asymmetric relations, between discrete objects, ideas or concepts (i.e. environmental interaction) as noticeable in Dynamic System Models.
The Newton's Cradle Trap to illustrate the inefficient application of energy and time.

Newton's cradle - named after Sir Isaac Newton - is a physics model and device that demonstrates the conservation of momentum and energy (i.e. mass x speed). This model can also be used to demonstrate - to some extent - what occurs when the channelling of human energies are subjected to the presence of dualities (or contradictions) within a dynamic system.

The presence of dualities within a dynamic energy system, often results in a "to and fro jumping of choices and/or behaviours" between the duality extremes without "moving" or dealing with the source of the problem at all. This - to some extend - can also be compared to a car's engine running at 12,000 rpm's, while not in gear. There is a lot of noise and plenty of vibrations, but no movement... neither forward nor backwards (i.e. stationary and stuckness of human energies).

The Newton's Cradle Trap, indeed, is an unproductive application of human energies, a very uncomfortable and frustrating "place" for anyone to be in and an excellent platform to launch and maintain an acute state of cognitive dissonance, which in turn frequently results in playing the blame game to ease anxiety, reduce fears and counter act inner turmoil.

For illustrative purposes, let's use the physics principles and the motion of Newton's Cradle to demonstrate the unhealthy impact of dualities on the human energy system. Just bear in mind that energy motion in physics, is a whole lot simpler than human energy motions, that manifest as and in various dynamic systems.

However, basic human energy motion principles - in its most simplistic form - can be compared - for a better understanding - to the motions of energy in physics and science.

When one ball is pulled away and...
We experience a discomfort, a problem or obstacle in our life and prime our dynamic energy system to deal with it. We initiate actions, frequently - and sadly - using one extreme of the present duality (i.e. sourcing from some form of cognitive dissonance) to select (choose) and launch our actions. left to fall,... We take action and "move" to address the problem, either physically, mentally, emotionally and/or spiritually. strikes the first ball in the set and comes to a dead stop. The momentum created by the ball is transferred to the second ball in the set, the third, the fourth... until... We "tackle" the problem and are abruptly confronted with REALITY and the context of the problem arena, which is also - equally as strongly - influenced by the opposite/contradictory duality.
The ball on the "other side" side of the set acquires the speed and momentum of the first ball and swings out in an arc. We now "switch" sides and decide to approach the problem from another angle, this time using the contradictory duality as initiator for our actions.
The ball swings out, as far as the string - attached - allows it to go. The balls movement is momentarily suspended (it comes to a standstill), gather momentum and swings back. Time to choose and the regrouping of our resources to "tackle" the problem "anew" and with another way of doing things - of course - within the allowable parameters of morality and culture.
It strikes the first ball in the set and comes to a dead stop... again. The ball on the "other side" of the set - again - acquires the speed and momentum of the first ball and swings out in an arc. Again, we "tackle" the problem and again we are confronted - although from a slightly different angle this time - with the harsh reality and context of the problem, which is - again - influenced by the opposite or contradictory duality.
The ball swings out, as far as the string - attached - allows it to go. The balls movement is momentarily suspended (it comes to a standstill), gather momentum and swings back. Again we regroup our resources, adjust our approach a little and "tackle" the problem "anew"... AGAIN. Already the first ominous signs of a developing repetitive pattern is noticeable.
It strikes the set of balls and comes to a dead stop. The ball on the opposite side of the series - AGAIN - acquires the speed of the first ball and swings out in an arc. The fruitless cycle is repeated again, readjustment initiated and a different approach adopted along the same principles as dictated by the dualities that we presently experience. A recurring pattern is slowly rising to the surface.
Despite the energetic movement and momentum of the outside balls, the intermediate balls - for all practical purposes - remains stationary and in one place and only a slight movement is observable. Despite all efforts, time and energy spend on dealing with the problem, the problem or issue remains motionless and - as a matter of fact - nothing productively is accomplished to address and solve the dilemma of our stuckness. The issue just develop a life of its own and we become frustrated, stressed out and experience feeling of helplessness, frustration and "failure".
What actually happens is that the first impact produces a kind of "shock wave" that propagates through the intermediate balls and transfer energy to the ball on the other end which then "shot" away. Hard materials such as steel is very good at transferring momentum, where common objects like people in a bus queue - for example - are not, because "softness" tends to absorbs the momentum.
There could be number of reasons why we "steel temper" the problem that we experience. Maybe because of... past experiences, present circumstances, future expectations, suppressions, denials, fears, ignorance, ...etc. We are derailed in our efforts and instead of dealing with the problem in context, we focus our attention on the dualities and differences related to the problem, which then promptly destabilize our locus of control and a fixations emerge that - in essence - is either an imbalanced external dominated locus of control or internal dominated locus of control. This impact negatively on our emotional maturity, which may - or may not - result in a wild horse attitude and/or victim perspective on life.
In the real world - however - none of these processes has perfect efficiency. Energy is lost (i.e. wasted) in the suspending wires, friction of the surrounding air and sounds. The latter are quite obvious, as the clicking of the balls can be heard clearly. Toward the end of oscillation, even the intermediate balls are jiggling a little bit. Eventually, our energies is "lost" in other avenues such as constantly seeking enabler assistance, developing mind defence mechanisms and apply different avoiding techniques for example; BUT the problem remains "safely" and "securely" in its place, "happily" continuing to gradually drain our energies... till we reach an acute stage of depression, chronic fatigue, burnout, "medical unexplainable" aches or pains and/or we experience a final physical, emotional and/or mental melt down.

Being torn between two extreme realities isn't conducive to the human spirit, growth and development.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The key focus of the AltanaESP LMS is to provide learners with relevant feedback and the Normal Distribution or Bell Curve is one of the many possible tools that a locksmith can use to guide a learner to obtain a more applicable and reliable personal orientation within the dynamic system in which s/he operates.

In probability theory and statistics, the normal distribution curve is a continuous probability distribution (sourcing from evolving norms tables) that describes data that cluster around the mean. The graph of the associated probability density function is bell-shaped, with a peak at the mean (see: attached graphic). The normal distribution curve can be used to describe - at least approximately - any variable that tends to cluster around the mean. For example, the heights of adult males in South Africa are roughly normally distributed, with a mean of about 1.8 meters. Most men have a height close to the mean, though a small number of outliers have a height significantly above or below the mean. Thus, the sum of a large number of "independent random variables" is distributed approximately normally. For this reason, the normal distribution curve is frequently used throughout statistics, natural science and social science as a simple representative model for complex phenomena.

The normal distribution curve in Altana LMS is primarily used to indicate or reflect an individual's estimated level of performance in relation to the performance levels of other people. The very foundation of the normal distribution curve is the Dimensions of Human Beingness and a number of different data filters can be employed to create a "picture" of performance levels from different angles.

For example...

A learner completes a personality questionnaire to highlight certain characteristics. Initially feedback can be provided using "difference dimension" data filters applying the normal distribution curve to "compare" questionnaire results with suchlike assessments previously completed by the learner (i.e. cumulative assessment basis). To obtain an improved perspective regarding his/her result, "similar dimension" data filters can be used in relation with the normal distribution curve to obtain an estimated "distribution picture" related to age, gender, level of schooling, family milieu, job environments, ...etc. Finally additional feedback can be done using "sameness dimension" data filters to "compare" results of the individual with the results of all the persons that completed this particular personality questionnaire.
