Contrary to what the term "Youth on the Move" might suggest, it isn't referring to the "movements" of young people only. The term was coined - Youth on the Move - because the process of establishing or affirming one's self identity, are most often observed amongst young people.

Youth on the move includes individuals of all walks of life and all ages. Thus, concept of youth in the term "Youth on the Move", rather implies "new to..." OR "not yet settled in..." Thus, "Youth on the Move" is a term or concept indicating an individual, or group of individuals, that enters a new phase in his/her/their life’s and while doing so, s/he/they initiate certain actions (i.e. movements) to...
In essence "youth on the move" describe all new comers to a specific situation (which frequently can be identified as the youth or young people), whether it is an adolescent entering adult life, an individual marrying for the first time (...or second, or third time), a manager appointed to the board of directors, becoming a parent, qualify as a teacher, ...etc. Youth on the move includes all the "firsts" in an individual's life.

Question Why is it necessary to coin the term "youth on the move" to describe first encounters or exposures? Isn't it a natural occurrence that just happen?

Yes, it is true that we encounter "firsts in life" at least once a week and it is quite a natural change and growing process that we all have to deal with. Not a big deal and certainly not something that really warrants a specific "scientific, educational or psychological" term. However....

The aim of the concept and term "youth on the move" isn't to indicate, describe or explain the WHAT, HOW or WHY of "firsts", but the psyche and mental process that accompanies "life's firsts". The focus of "youth on the move" is the accompanied intention and reasoning which can be indicated as follows...

Normally - when common sense and logic prevails - an individual, upon entering a "first life situation", tends to be driven by a critical analysis of the situation and commentary on existing structures. s/he/they seeks for new possibilities, alternatives, change, identity and a "better" or "improved" way of doing things.

Key In essence "youth on the move" - describing "firsts in life - is characterized by a desire to correct or "right" the wrongs of the past. Acting according to lessons learned if you will.

FOR EXAMPLE Newly weds assess the situation and their circumstances of marriage with the intention not to repeat the mistakes of their divorced parents. A newly appointed director is determined to apply his/her knowledge to avoid the mistakes made by seasoned board members. First time parents want to ensure that their children will not be exposed to the same hardships of their own youth. The new engineer wants to ensure that modern technologies and processes are implemented.

And so the wheel of "youth on the move" keeps on turning, ...continuously.
